“Is There A Difference In Indian Casinos?”

In 1988 the Federal Government passed the National Indian Gaming Act. This legislation in effect gave Indian nations within the United States the sanction to make pacts with individual states in which they are located. The pact, depending on the state, can allow for any type of gambling on Indian reservations, from slot machines to pull tabs, bingo, poker and/or table games. For the most part, if there are charitable organizations in the state who run Millionaire Parties to raise funds and operate all the standard table game (21, craps, roulette, Big 6), then the Indian casinos can run the same types of games. In some states dice games are outlawed as a matter of law. In those states an Indian casino cannot operate crap tables. In California for instance, Indian casinos are not allowed to have slot machines. They cannot operate casino table games they book themselves. So in California Indian casinos you will find Poker, (where the house takes a rake of the pot), and other casino card games where players actually buy the deal for an entire shoe and pay a commission to the house. In effect, the other players are betting against the one player who bought the shoe.

Some non-Indian casino operators feel that the Indian casinos have an unfair business advantage. Indian casinos are not subject to federal and state taxes as are non-Indian casinos in the country.
